Celebrating the opening of Dundee Cycle Hub and the Launch of COP26 activities in Dundee

ACTIVE travel’s contribution to cutting greenhouse gases is set to take centre stage in Dundee on the 26th September!

The opening of the city’s cycle hub on September 26 will also see the launch of local events leading up to the COP 26 climate summit.

Slessor Gardens and Waterfront Place will play host to stalls and information stands, a mobile bike track, Segway sessions, upcycling, rewilding and many other activities.

Dundee's Waterfront is also set to come alive with a guest appearance by Storm - A 10 metre high goddess created out of recycled materials who will walk around the V&A, Waterfront park and Slessor gardens area!

Meanwhile the £1.2m Dundee Cycle Hub will be officially opened by Lord Provost Ian Borthwick and Lee Craigie, Scotland’s Active Nation Commissioner.

Dundee Cycle Hub
Official Opening

Celebrations will kick off at 11am with the official opening of the new Dundee Cycle Hub at Waterfront Place beside the V&A museum.

Lord Provost Ian Brothwick and Active Nation Commissioner for Scotland Lee Craigie will be on hand to open the building and welcome everyone to the cities new Cycling, Active Travel and resource centre.

Come on down, get your bike fixed, rent a bike, get advice, grab a slice of cake, pick up some cycling supplies and try our own specialty house blend Dear Green Coffee from our barista bar!

Find out about the exciting redevelopment for Discovery Point including the creation of a new gallery themed around climate change and retrofitting the building to ensure a low carbon impact.

STORM is a 10-metre tall goddess of the sea, created by Vision Mechanics and made from entirely recycled materials. STORM comes with an environmental message, to encourage us all to celebrate our seas, care for our coastlines and empower us all to put the environment first.

STORM will arrive into Slessor Gardens at approximately 12.30pm where she will take in the festivities head of a procession around the city centre. Starting at Slessor Gardens at 1.10pm, walking up Castle Street, along to City Square, along High Street, down Union Street, along Dock Street and back into Slessor Gardens. A performance from Urban Moves Dance Company will bid her a farewell just before 3pm.

Our qualified mechanics will be on hand to offer FREE complimentary bicycle safety checks, mini services and advice throughout the day.

The Ebikes are coming!

Come along and try a variety of different ebikes from a range of manufacturers courtesy of Energy Savings Trust. Get free impartial advice and take a demo bike out for a spin.

T&C's Apply. Pre-booking is essential. Bikes are subject to availability on a first come first served basis. In order to rent a bike you will need to present a valid proof of photo identification and proof of address. A refundable deposit of £50 is also required when you collect a demo bike from us.

Muckmedden Events MTB Skills Track, Toddler Track & More!

Come down to Slessor Gardens on Sunday 26th September to try out a wide range of fun cycling activities for all ages.

The Muckmedden Skills Track incorporates bumps, berms and rollers to test your reflexes and cycling skills!

Bikes and helmets are available to use.

Try the Embark Dundee Ebike Share Scheme

RideOn Scotland will be offering free demonstrations, help and advice to enable Dundee residents and visitors to access and get best use out of the cities growing network of Ebikes and docking stations.

Adaptive Bikes & Trikes

Cycling should be for all and that is why we have teamed up with Dundee Volunteer and Voluntary Action's Rediscover Project and the NHS Learning Disability Physiotherapy Service to offer a chance to try a range of adaptive bikes and trikes. These bikes are suitable for those with physical impairments, health or mobility issues! Sessions will take place throughout the day.

Silent Adventures Walking Silent Disco Tours

Come along for a good old boogie, and a sing song with the original, award-winning Silent Adventure tour, through the streets of Dundee! Join your hilarious host on a silent disco tour full of dad dancing and out of tune singing, for all of Dundee to experience. Top of the range headsets blast out sensational tunes from all decades and genres, as well as the inspirational instruction of your host - you'll forget about the world around you, and have the time of your life!
